Statement regarding the Victorian Royal Commission into Management of Police Informants

The Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner are the independent regulators of the legal profession in Victoria.

The legal profession is a fundamental pillar of the Victorian justice system, and we are committed to ensuring that legal services in Victoria meet the highest standards of excellence.

Where lawyers have engaged in conduct that breaches their ethical or legal obligations, we will act in line with our regulatory responsibilities and use our powers to address those breaches as appropriate.

The Victorian Royal Commission into Management of Police Informants was announced on 3 December 2018. We will assist with this inquiry in any way that the Commissioner requires. If information comes to light through the work of the Royal Commission that we can act on, we will. We will not be providing any further comment on matters related to the Royal Commission at this time.
